Important Technology Updates for Your Business – Fall 2025

Several critical technology updates may impact business systems and software in the coming months. Staying informed about these changes can help with proactive management of upgrades and compliance requirements.

1. Windows 10 End of Life

Windows 10 will reach its end of life in October next year. Computers that do not meet the minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 should be replaced by this time. This update will primarily affect computers over seven years old. A phased rollout for upgrading to Windows 11 on compatible devices is planned.

2. Microsoft Office End of Support

Microsoft Office Retail and Volume licenses for Office 2016 and Office 2019 will no longer be supported after October 2025, meaning these versions will not connect to email servers like Microsoft 365. Ensuring that all Office products are updated to a newer retail version or subscribed through Microsoft’s cloud service before next year’s deadline will help avoid disruptions.

3. Compliance with Kari’s Law & Ray Baum’s Act

Kari’s Law and Ray Baum’s Act, which took effect in 2020, have introduced requirements for phone systems to provide direct 911 access and precise location information. Phone systems installed before February 2020 may be exempt, while those implemented after this date must meet these requirements.

4. QuickBooks and PCI Compliance

QuickBooks is now enforcing PCI compliance for credit card processing within the software. Many users have expressed concerns about recent changes from Intuit, such as the shift to cloud-based versions, discontinuation of certain on-premises versions, and price increases. For those exploring alternatives to QuickBooks, there are options available that can align with specific business needs.

Staying on top of these updates can ensure smoother transitions and maintain system compliance as these deadlines approach.
